Read ArticleFarhold — an original game of star empires, played on a photographic survey plate ruled in hexes that wraps in both directions. One sun is yours. Every other light in the reach is a point on the plate: you know where it is, not what stands under it. Send a probe, or push your scanners further, and the annotation appears beside it — climate, yield, and whoever is already there. Distance is counted in hexes and nothing else: a drive rating is hexes a turn, a scanner mark is hexes read clear, and a course is a run of hexes you can see before you commit to it. The plate wraps top to bottom and side to side, so there is no back door and no safe corner: every house is somebody's neighbour in every direction. Rule the plate to order if the presets do not suit. Every light is printed in the colour of its class, so the plate says at a glance where life will take, and resting the pointer on a squadron reads out what is aboard it. Each world you hold makes one stream of output, and the whole game is the argument over where it goes: into works, into the climate, into the yards, into the laboratories, or into the reserve. Research runs in six branches, and a hull carries the gunnery and structure marks it was laid down with for the rest of its life, so a fleet built cheap and early is still cheap and early ten turns later. Two to four houses begin the same way at opposite ends of the reach, and none of them intend to share it. The reach falls to the last house standing, to whoever holds twice the second house and 38% of the whole for 4 turns running, or to the ledger at the last turn. Players: 1 (against 1 to 3 machine houses) Play length: 25 to 90 minutes, set by the survey length you choose (60 / 100 / 150 turns) Genre: 4X strategy, empire building, turn-based Controls: pointer or touch, with keyboard panning, zoom and end-of-turn

Read ArticlePANZER BLITZ (Tronsoft Games edition) Eastern Front tactical armored combat, hex by hex. Command German or Soviet combined-arms forces across the three classic geomorphic boards, recreated here in an original tile style, and fight the situations that defined the grandfather of all tactical wargames. Fire is resolved on odds against a Combat Results Table. Terrain gives cover and blocks line of sight; hills let you see and shoot over intervening ground; artillery drops indirect fire through spotters. Units disperse before they die, transports haul infantry forward, and stacking rewards concentration -- mass your fire and you win the firefight. TWENTY-SIX SCENARIOS - The canonical situations #1-#7, #12, #14, #45, #51, #52 and #1A -- rear-area raids that hunt command posts, mobile actions and breakthroughs across two or three boards, town and depot fights, and a meeting engagement decided by who holds the central board. - The 28-3 series #28-3/1..6 and the 1941 PanzerBlitz intro -- Tula, Kharkov, the 1942 delaying action, Kursk, the breakthrough to Kharkov and the drive on Kustrin, on their own multi-board configurations. - Two quick battles for a fast game. Deployment is automatic within each situation's setup zones, so you drop straight into the fight. Play the Wehrmacht or the Red Army against a heuristic AI validated across thousands of headless games. An unaffiliated fan homage inspired by the 1970 Avalon Hill classic. All code, art, and map renderings are original. See docs/credits.txt.

Read ArticleBARBARIAN KINGS A multi-king game of fantasy conquest for the continent of Allaven. Two to five kings contend for a broken continent. Govern provinces, tax them for gold, and raise armies from the old races of the land: ferocious Barbarians, wood-archer Elves, immovable Dwarves, cheap Orc hordes, thundering Knights, amphibious Warfrogs, winged Flying Men, skyborne Airships, and sea-ruling Fleets. Movement is simultaneous. You and every rival king write orders in secret, then all armies march at once. When hostile hosts meet they may fight -- resolved by comparing strengths, rolling the die, and reading the Combat Results Table -- or pass in wary silence. Kings and their wizards weave spells that scatter armies, raise the dead, freeze the seas, blight rival lands, and turn the tide of battle. Alliances are made and broken at will; the computer kings gang up on whoever leads. Win by mastering most of Allaven, or by casting down every rival crown. PLAYERS AND LENGTH You against 1-4 AI kings (2-5 seats). A short chronicle (16 turns) plays in about 20 minutes; standard (24 turns) in 30-45 minutes; long (36 turns) in about an hour. Save anytime and finish the war later. FEATURES - Simultaneous-movement strategy on an original hex map of Allaven - Ten races with distinct strengths, costs, and terrain - A full spell system: strategic magic and battle magic - Combat Results Table with terrain and sorcery modifiers - Competent AI kings with diplomacy, validated across 1,000+ games - Save and restore: three manual save slots plus per-turn autosave, with exact-moment restoration (even future die rolls are preserved) - 2-5 players (you versus the AI), three chronicle lengths - Pan/zoom map, in-game ledger, campaign chronicle, printable rules manual An unaffiliated fan homage to Greg Costikyan's 1980 Ares design. All code, map, art, and rules text are original works of Tronsoft Games.

Read ArticleBritannia is at peace and needs no champion of arms. It needs someone who lives the eight virtues. Every virtue is scored from how you behave: what you give, what you spare, what you take, whether you keep your word. Raise each to full, be elevated at its shrine, gather the Bell, Book and Candle, learn the Word of Passage at three altars deep underground, and answer the Codex at the bottom of the Great Stygian Abyss.

Read ArticleA squad-level tactical wargame of infantry, leaders and morale on the Eastern Front. Fire seldom kills; it pins men down and breaks them, and only an officer gets them up again. Three actions are fought hex by hex over four printed geomorphic boards, with an umpire’s slip written up for every volley — every weapon, every modifier by name, the dice and the verdict — filled in before you give the order to fire.
Read ArticleTwo superpowers fight for a continent that never existed. Move, fight, then exploit: armour that breaks the line pours through it in a phase of its own. Play on the printed mapboard of 1865 hexes and 63 towns, or have a fresh, provably even continent raised for the campaign.
Read ArticleGrand-strategic war in Europe from 1939 to 1945. Six great powers and seventeen minor countries contest a hex mapboard of Europe, North Africa and the Near East across twenty-three seasons. Each power keeps a single pool of Basic Resource Points, and that one pool pays for offensives, declarations of war, diplomacy, rail movement and construction alike, so every season is a decision about what not to spend it on. Fronts are opened by purchase rather than by wish: only an offensive releases movement points. Supply is blocked by enemy formations rather than by the zones they project, capitals must be stormed rather than walked into, and a finite counter mix means losses genuinely hurt.
