Hunt the Wumpus: Roguelike Tutorial

Begin

Choose Adventure, Roguelike, or Classic+, a hunter class, difficulty, and optional cave seed.

Turn Order

Most actions consume a turn. After your action, predators and the Wumpus may move or react to noise and scent.

Movement

Click/tap a visible adjacent chamber to select it, then use Move Here or Move to Selected. Tactical View emphasizes nearby chambers; Exploration View shows discovered territory.

Search and Listen

Search for supplies, secrets, landmarks, loot, and evidence. Listen for nearby hazards and creatures. Evidence can indicate Wumpus direction, age, injury, feeding territory, or nesting activity.

Combat

Select Shoot, choose a connected path, and fire. Range, equipment, armor, darkness, and special arrows affect combat. Melee is dangerous, especially against the Wumpus.

Tracking

Watch Wumpus Awareness, Scent, and Noise. Hide, extinguish light, use bait, or lay traps to manipulate pursuit.

Saving

Adventure runs can be saved locally. Roguelike play emphasizes permadeath. Restart Expedition is available from contextual chamber actions.

Winning and Losing

Defeat the Wumpus and complete expedition objectives to win. You lose if health reaches zero or a lethal cave hazard claims the hunter.
