Championship Boxing - Tutorial

How to begin

From the cover, choose New career. Give your fighter a name, a division, a hometown, a stance, a temperament and one trait, then spend all sixty points across the seven attributes (none may start above 75). Turn professional takes you to the gym. Exhibition bout lets you pick any two fighters from a division and fight, or watch the computer corners box each other. Resume career loads your autosave.

Controls

Every control is a button or a select and works with the mouse, touch, or the keyboard (Tab, Enter, Space). In the ring: keys 1-5 pick Box, Pressure, Counter, Go for KO, Cover up; Space or Enter rings the bell. Playback speed is 1x, 3x or Skip. When your browser asks for reduced motion the game opens on Skip.

Turn order

The career runs a month at a time. In each month you either train (choose a primary and a secondary attribute) or accept a fight offer. Either way the calendar advances, the other fighters fight, the rankings move and new offers arrive. A fight is played round by round: pick a strategy, ring the bell, read the corner slate, repeat.

Movement

There is no board. Footwork is automatic: the pressure man comes forward, the boxer gives ground, and the distance between the two men follows the strategies both corners chose. Your rank is what moves - beat a man ranked above you and you take his place; lose to a man below you and you drop three.

Combat and scoring

Each round is sixty three-second exchanges. Hitting depends on accuracy against the other man's defence (which sags as he tires), hand speed, and the strategy matrix. Damage depends on power, the punch, and the target's chin. Heavy shots build daze; daze produces knockdowns; a man gets up on heart and condition. Three judges score ten-point-must: a knockdown round is 10-8, a clear round 10-9, and judges reward the damaging blow. The corner slate between rounds shows their unofficial totals.

Winning conditions

Knockout (counted out or flattened), technical knockout (referee, doctor on cuts after round three, corner retirement, or three knockdowns in a round), or a unanimous, split or majority decision after the scheduled rounds. Win enough and you are ranked #1; beat the champion over twelve rounds and you hold the title; defend it against the mandatory challenger.

Losing conditions

Any of the above going the other way. Three straight stoppage losses cost your licence; at 38 the commission will not renew it. A heavy fight puts you on the doctor's shelf for one to three months. You may also retire at any time from the gym; the legacy verdict is computed from your record, title reign, earnings and fame.

Saving and restarting

The career autosaves to browser storage (key tronsoft_championship_boxing_save) after every month and every fight; Save & main menu also saves. Resume career restores it. Starting a New career replaces the saved one. If the browser refuses storage the game still runs; only resume is lost. Exhibition bouts are never saved.
